Steven Broomhead - Chief Executive for the NorthWest Regional Development Agency


As Chief Executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), Steven Broomhead is responsible for a budget of £1.4 billion over the next three years, 400 staff and an extensive remit encompassing the economic, social and regeneration development of England’s Northwest. The Agency leads on all policy issues for the other 8 RDAs in England on Department for Education and Skills and Department of Work & Pensions.

Prior to this, Steven Broomhead was Chief Executive of Warrington Borough Council (Unitary). From 1994 to 1997, Steven was the Principal of Warrington Collegiate Institute. He was previously Principal of Tertiary college in Eastington, County Durham, and Vice Principal of Skelmersdale College in Lancashire. He is a Companion of the Chartered Institute of Management and a Fellow of the City & Guilds.

Steven is committed to the promotion of lifelong learning for which he was recently awarded the BT National Lifelong Learning Award for his contribution to skills and education. In 2001 he was appointed by the Government as a member of the Board of the Learning & Skills Development Agency. In his numerous other roles, he is currently a Board member of the Liverpool Vision, Liverpool Land Development Company and West Lakes Renaissance Boards. He is Chairman of the Barrow Task Force, President of the Cheshire branch of the Institute of Management. Steven is Chairman of the North West Regional Strategy group on Basic Skills. He is governor of Liverpool John Moores University and Preston College, and is also a member of the National Skills Alliance.

His hobbies are walking, lifelong learning and football (Notts County). Steven is the Vice Chairman of Warrington Rugby League Football Club. He is a Patron of the Campaign for Learning and a Patron of the Tim Parry/Johnathan Ball "Peace Centre".
