A Future Shaped by Public Opinion
Northwich residents and businesses have been urged to involve themselves in some of the town’s most important planning decisions in living memory, decisions which could affect the town’s prosperity into the next century.
The Northwich Vision Regeneration Partnership has invited the townspeople to a three-day public consultation and exhibition at the Memorial Hall starting Thursday, February 16 (4pm to 8pm); Friday, February 19 (10am – 4pm) and Saturday, February 18 (10am – 1pm). The exhibition is part of the Northwich Vision consultation running from February 16 until March 13.
Officials of Northwich Vision are anxious to get the invitation message across to as many as possible and play leaders will be in attendance on Saturday morning to accommodate visitors with young children.
Other families and individuals unable to attend the exhibition/consultation can still take part. Information packs with a feedback/response form will be available for a three week period ending March 13 at Northwich, Barnton, Weaverham and Sandiway libraries, the town’s mobile libraries as well as Northwich Information Centre.
The public’s feedback will influence the decision on which options are preferred when making the final decision on the town’s proposed link road and its associated bridge.
Under consideration is the Castle Street to Leicester Street Link Road and the associated new bridge required across the River Weaver. Should it be a lift bridge with towers 23 metres high making it a visible landmark or should it be a less intrusive swing bridge but with a possible detrimental effect on the Weaver’s riverbank?
Also up for public debate is the Baron’s Quay development with its shops and recreational facilities available for discussion.
Lead Councillor for Regeneration, Cllr Arthur Wood, said: "These two public consultations are important catalysts for the social and economic regeneration of the town centre, for tourism, leisure, residential and cultural uses".
He added: "We wish to encourage everyone who is interested in the future of Northwich to visit the event so that they can make their comments on the proposals being outlined".
Northwich’s County Councillor Shirley Harris, said: "Delivering the new length of road will prove challenging. The number of options available is limited but during the period of consultation we hope as many people as possible will take time to consider and discuss the issues.
"The more local support there is helps the preparation and presentation of the case in the overall project to the Government".
Simon Russian, Development Director for development company Wilson Bowden, said: "We’re embarking on a development project for Baron’s Quay that will have a legacy for many years. It’s important to us to deliver a scheme that is "the best" for Northwich.
"To achieve this it is vital we know what the people of Northwich want from the development. We would encourage those who have an interest in this project to attend the consultation event"
